Capellas Named Chair of Compaq Board

Compaq Computer Corp.’s board of directors voted unanimously to name current Compaq president and CEO Michael Capellas as chairman of the board. Capellas replaces Benjamin Rosen, who retired from the board after 18 years. Rosen was recognized by the board with the honorary title of chairman emeritus.

Rosen was a founder of Compaq (www.compaq.com) in 1982 and was appointed chairman of the board in 1983. He also served as acting CEO from April 1999 to July 1999. Capellas was named president and CEO on July 22, 1999.

“Michael and his management team have charted the right course for the company, and I believe he has clearly demonstrated the leadership Compaq needs and deserves in a Chairman,” said Rosen. – Isaac Slepner
