Maxtor Corp. will release its DiamondMax 80, an 80 GB drive, in August.
The DiamondMax is a four-platter, 20 GB per platter drive that operates at 5400 RPM and is capable of transferring data at 100 MB per second. At 80 GB, it is the largest capacity available among IDE and SCSI drives.
Maxtor also announced the release of the DiamondMax 45, a 15 GB per platter drive that is the latest addition to the DiamondMax Plus 7200 series, as well as the DiamondMax VL 40, a 40-GB, 2 MB buffer solution. The 5400 RMP VL 40 is built for entry-level PCs with the same technology as the DiamondMax 80. The 45 includes the Ultra ATA/100 interface while the 40 is compatible for that interface.
