W2K+1 Beta Leaked

Windows enthusiasts got an opportunity this morning for a sneak peak at Windows 2001. An alpha version was leaked from Microsoft Corp. and spread across college and university sites.

Build number 2211.1 was disseminated to interested users across the Internet, presumably without Microsoft’s (www.microsoft.com) blessing.

Whistler is a fusion of consumer and professional features of Windows 2000 and 98 for a future consumer version of Windows. Early reports suggested that the interface was very similar to that of Windows 2000.

Few new features are reported on the OS, aside from a few HTML enhancements. It is believed that these are intended to smooth the experience for new users. - Christopher McConnell
