Emulex Unveils Fibre Channel Host Adapters

Emulex Corp. added three 64-bit, 66-MHz LightPulse PCI host bus adapters to its family of Fibre Channel host adapters -- the 2-Gbps LP9002, and the 1-Gbps LP9000 and LP950.

Emulex targets the LP9002 and LP9000 at high-end, mission-critical systems, while the LP950 is for entry level Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Novell Netware environments. Each adapter features the new 2-Gbps capactity Centaur ASIC, Emulex' latest Fibre Channel controller ASIC.

The LP9002 provides automatic speed sensing and automatic speed matching, enabling it to provide 2-Gbps performance while maintaining backward compatibility with 1-Gbps Fibre Channel installations.

New features of the adapters are switched fabric support using F_Port and FL_Port connections, full-duplex data transfers, high data integrity features, support for all Fibre Channel topologies, and support for service classes 2 and 3. The adapters will come with a variety of physical interface options, including copper, short wave optics, and long wave optics GBICs, as well as embedded copper and embedded optics interfaces.

All three models support SCSI and IP operation. The adapters are fully compatible with drivers and software used with earlier Emulex products.

The adapters will be available in the first quarter of 2000.
