Amdahl Announces 36.4-GB Drive

Amdahl Corp. today announced the availability of the 36.4-GB, 10,000-RPM disk drive for the LVS 4600 and 4800 Open Systems Storage products. The new 36.4-GB Ultra2 LVD SCSI drive extends the flexibility and scalability of the LVS 4600 and 4800 by providing greater performance and capacity in a smaller footprint. The new drive also offers a 25 percent performance improvement on average over the 50.1-GB, 7,200-RPM drive, the company says.

The new high-capacity drives can be intermixed with 9.1-GB, 18.2-GB, or 50.1-GB drives to meet storage needs and budgets. The 36.4-GB drive offers a cost savings of 18 percent in price-per-MB of disk storage capacity over the 18.2-GB drives.
