CA Buys Active Content Security Vendor

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA,
www.cai.com) announced the acquisition of privately-held Security-7 Software Ltd., a provider of "active content" security solutions.
The acquisition will provide CA with additional development expertise and resources to help organizations protect their increasingly critical information assets from the ever-increasing range of Active Content threats that are occurring daily.
Security-7's patented object-oriented security systems are designed to identify and isolate all types of malicious code -- including Java applets, ActiveX components, JavaScript, VBScript, e-mail attachments and improperly digitally signed objects.
The acquisition consummates the existing business relationship between the two companies. Through an agreement announced last year, CA has incorporated Security-7's software modules for gateway-level security into its Unicenter TNG and InoculateIT product lines, offering CA clients a broader array of solutions, based upon Security-7's real-time, kernel-based gateway-level content inspection technology.
Financial terms of the purchase were not disclosed. --Thomas Sullivan
