Dynamics NAV 2015 Release Set for Oct. 1

The next version of Dynamics NAV, Microsoft's enterprise resource planning (ERP) product for small and midsize businesses, will be rolled out in early October.

Dynamics NAV 2015, previously code-named "Crete," will be generally available on Oct. 1, according to an announcement Monday on the Dynamics NAV Team Blog.

"Already today partners can download Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 from PartnerSource and start investigating the new functionality," the blog added. "Visit the new readiness page to access training and resources about Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015, and download the product here. For more information, see the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help in the MSDN Library."

However, Dynamics NAV MVP Luc van Vugt indicated in his blog that the Oct. 1 date will apply to new customers only. Existing Dynamics NAV customers will receive access to Dynamics NAV 2015 on Oct. 6, van Vugt wrote, citing information shared by Microsoft executives during the Directions US conference earlier this month.

Microsoft first unveiled Dynamics NAV 2015 during the Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) in July. According to MSDynamicsWorld, Microsoft at WPC revealed that new features would include tighter integration with Office 365 and Power BI, tools to make the upgrade process easier and document reporting.

Microsoft also promised added mobile support. To that end, earlier this month, Microsoft released Windows Store (or "Metro"-style) Dynamics NAV apps for Windows, Android and iOS-based devices.

Microsoft shared a few more feature details at Directions US, according to van Vugt's blog, including new "expressive tiles" in the user interface, improved cash management capabilities and new support for Microsoft Social Listening. Social Listening debuted this year in the Dynamics CRM 2013 spring update. It allows companies to monitor customer sentiment by scouring social media networks for posts related to their products.
