Management Report Tool for Dynamics ERP Released

Microsoft on Tuesday released a corporate-finance management reporting solution that's designed to work with its Dynamics enterprise resource planning (ERP) products.

The new Management Reporter for Microsoft Dynamics ERP is currently available for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010, which was released to customers earlier this month. However, Microsoft plans to make this reporting solution available with "future releases of other Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions," according to the company's announcement.

Microsoft is currently offering the new solution to Dynamics GP 2010 customers at no additional cost.

This reporting solution has been around in some form under different names. It was formerly known as "Management Reporter 2.0" and it replaces Microsoft's earlier FRx product. However, Management Reporter for Microsoft Dynamics ERP now has an improved design that provides "a new level of scalability and reliability for customers," according to Crispin Read, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics ERP.

The new solution can generate balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow reports -- all using a Microsoft Office-like user interface. Microsoft's announcement claims that such reports can be generated without requiring the help of the IT department.

Reports can be set up to be in accordance with regulatory requirements for corporate financial statements. Users store their reports in the solution's Report Library. Elements of the reports can be recombined and reused for other documents or presentations. The solution taps into centralized data because Management Reporter for Microsoft Dynamics ERP directly integrates with the general ledger in Microsoft Dynamics ERP products.

For those using the earlier FRx 6.7 solution, Microsoft provides a guide for using the Management Reporter Migration wizard. The wizard helps move data from FRx 6.7 into the database of Management Reporter for Microsoft Dynamics ERP.

The migration guide and other resources are located at Microsoft's Web page here.
