SAP to Acquire Dremio to Strengthen Data Strategy for AI
SAP announced plans to acquire Dremio, a data platform provider, as part of an effort to unify enterprise data environments and support artificial intelligence initiatives. The acquisition is intended to help organizations integrate SAP and non-SAP data sources, enabling more consistent access to data for analytics and AI applications. Dremio’s technology focuses on data lakehouse architecture, which allows users to query and manage data across distributed systems. Dremio also focuses on eliminating data fragmentation and integration friction, complementing the SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP HANA Cloud offerings with seamless data integration that accelerates AI-ready context.
SAP is combining its enterprise application data with Dremio’s capabilities to support agentic AI use cases, where AI systems rely on access to large, diverse datasets. With Dremio, SAP will deliver a universal, open catalog built on Apache Polaris and the open Apache Iceberg REST Catalog API. The goal is to improve data accessibility and reduce fragmentation across enterprise environments. Details of the deal were not yet disclosed, but it is expected to close in Q3 of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and closing conditions.
