Altiris Updates Its IT Lifecycle Management Suite

Altiris is shipping version 6.1 of its IT lifecycle management package, Client Management Suite.

The new version includes a scripting facility that supports drag-and-drop script creation and a new software package importer capability that automatically creates multiple application packages based on user-specified collections.

Client Management Suite 6.1 also adds new software delivery options, including one called intelligent multicasting. Additionally, version 6.1 features more than 25 new migration capabilities aimed at eliminating costly desk-side visits by IT staff while improving data migration speed. These include better shortcut resolution and new or additional support for disconnected users, general-user profile-based migrations, IP version 6 (IPv6) and Research In Motion’s Blackberry.

The new scripting facility, called WiseScript, also features automated script compilation into self-installing executables, and simplifies automation of many tasks by providing 57 pre-built scripted functions. Other new capabilities will be added during the second quarter.

Altiris customers who have purchased annual upgrade protection can download and install updates at no additional cost. Altiris Client Management Suite starts at $92 per node with volume discounts available.
