Southworks Builds Azure AI Pipeline for Video Quality Control
Southworks has developed an Azure-based quality control pipeline that uses AI to reduce the manual work required to review recorded live content before publication. The system analyzes video, audio and closed captions in parallel after a live session ends.
The architecture uses FFmpeg for deterministic detection of problems including black frames, freezes, flicker, structural breakup and audio issues. Azure Speech creates time-aligned transcripts, while Azure OpenAI provides language and vision analysis to determine whether detected anomalies represent actual content problems.
Three AI passes examine session boundaries, caption quality and visual findings. For example, the system can distinguish a deliberately static end slide from an unintended frozen video or evaluate whether camera flashes caused a flicker detector to generate a false positive.
The underlying Azure architecture uses Container Apps Jobs and Service Bus for queue-driven processing, Blob Storage for media derivatives, Cosmos DB for structured results and Azure DevOps with Bicep for deployment automation.
Southworks said reviewers previously could spend more than 20 minutes manually checking a one-hour recording. The pipeline instead presents findings, evidence and an AI assessment for review. The new Southworks solution brings that approach into a deployable Azure-based pipeline, automating the workflow from post-session ingestion through analysis and AI-assisted review, giving operators richer context and clearer evidence while keeping them responsible for the final decision.
