Netrio Survey Finds Midmarket Companies Embrace AI Despite Governance Challenges

Artificial intelligence adoption has become commonplace among midmarket organizations, but many companies continue to struggle with governance, security and operational readiness, according to a new survey released by managed service provider Netrio.

The findings point to uneven governance across the market. 42 percent of respondents said they have a formal AI policy with actively enforced controls, 53 percent said they have full visibility into AI tool usage and 63 percent said they have formally assessed whether sensitive company or customer data is being entered into AI tools and have controls in place.

The study found that a majority of respondents are already using AI technologies or actively evaluating deployment strategies. However, the research also identified gaps in formal governance frameworks, employee training and policies governing AI use. These shortcomings could complicate efforts to scale AI initiatives while maintaining security, compliance and oversight. The report suggests that the next phase of AI success in the mid-market will be defined less by access to tools and more by the ability to implement, govern and support AI effectively across the business.
