The AI Partner Programs MSPs Have Been Waiting For

Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google have significantly restructured their partner programs in the first quarter of 2026. All three are chasing enterprise deployment but none of them offer the same deal to an MSP. The differences between them are substantial, so exploring them carefully before deciding which one or ones to join is essential.

Anthropic and the Claude Partner Network

Anthropic first launched the Claude Partner Network on March 12, 2026. More than 40,000 firms applied in the subsequent months following the launch, with over 10,000 consultants already earning a Claude certification.

The network is open and free to join. Any organization bringing Claude to the market can apply. That access model is by no means an accident. Anthropic made a deliberate choice to build a broad channel rather than an elite club. Behind that choice is a $100M investment commitment for 2026, including funding training, certifications, technical support and co-marketing for partners at every level of the tier structure: the kinds of things we all look for in a solid partner program.

The Three Tiers

The services track defines three tiers above the base "Registered level," including Select, Preferred and Global Premier, all with published and specific thresholds.

  1. Selectrequires 10 certified practitioners, two production deployments in the trailing 12 months and 1 published customer success story.
  2. Preferredjumps to 100 certified practitioners and 15 production customers.
  3. Global Premiersits at 1,000 certified practitioners, 100 deployed customers across at least three regions and named executive sponsors on both sides.

Promotions happen on January 1 and July 1, with an extra October 1 review in 2026. However, you can't advance on a rolling basis. The key is to plan for a promotion window, hit your numbers and progress from there.

A great certification is the Claude Certified Architect - Foundations (CCA-F), delivered through the Anthropic Academy. More certs for sellers and developers are coming later in 2026, and partners will be given priority access.

Public Partner Hub

What distinguishes this program from anything else in the AI partner landscape right now is the Public Partner Hub. Enterprise buyers can search a directory filtered by tier, certified headcount and production deployment count. If you've earned "Select" status, you're visible to clients who are actively looking for a Claude implementation firm. That's demand generation built directly into the program structure.

It’s worth noting that this was built by Steve Corfield, who joined Anthropic in November as Head of Business Development & Partnerships, bringing with him 10 years at Salesforce’s global alliance organization. Prior to that, he held significant positions at Microsoft, Oracle and Sun Microsystems, clearly an IT channel veteran with tremendous perspective on what makes a program ideal for MSPs.

Corfield understands that enterprise AI doesn't scale through direct sales alone. It scales through quality MSP partners who already own the client relationship. The safety and compliance story is genuinely differentiated here. Claude's constitutional AI design, its documented behavior in sensitive contexts and its performance in regulated-industry workflows aren't just Anthropic marketing talking points. If your clients are in healthcare, financial services, legal, or government, you have a real story to tell with Claude that you don't have with a generic 'AI implementation' pitch. That matters when you're selling to a CISO or a compliance officer who will actually read the vendor documentation.

However, be forewarned that there are 40,000 applications. The "Select" tier is going to fill up the fastest. MSP early-movers who land in the public directory before the larger integrators crowd it will capture more buyer visibility than those who wait until 2027 to get serious. That window is real, and it's measured in months.

OpenAI: Frontier Alliances and the Problem of Being an MSP

OpenAI's Frontier Alliances launched February 23, 2026, names exactly four partners: BCG, McKinsey, Accenture and Capgemini.

With multi-year agreements, dedicated practice groups and certified teams working alongside OpenAI's Forward Deployed Engineering team, the program is built to put AI coworkers and agents inside Fortune 500 organizations at scale. The target client is the C-suite, with the delivery vehicle being the global consulting firm.
This represents a clear statement of OpenAI’s intent. OpenAI sees its primary enterprise delivery channel as the four largest consulting firms on earth, not the MSP ecosystem. That's clearly their legitimate strategic choice. It tells you exactly where OpenAI thinks the near-term enterprise money is and who they want to capture it. It also tells you what OpenAI is not: a channel-committed vendor in any meaningful sense of the term, at least not at this time.

The OpenAI Services Partner Program is the separate tier where MSPs can potentially participate. It is not equivalent to Frontier Alliances. It is selective, either invite-only or application-based, with no public mid-market pathway. Firms that have made it in, such as Tribe AI, Cloudwerx and deepsense.ai, describe it as recognition for demonstrated 'production-grade AI systems' with 'proven track records.' That bar is real.

OpenAI also launched certifications in 2026 through Coursera, including an AI Foundations credential. These are broad, workforce-facing credentials, not a services partner ladder.

There is no published tier structure for the Services Partner Program, no Select/Preferred equivalent and no open application pathway for a 25-person MSP looking to formalize its OpenAI practice. For most MSPs, at least to my mind, it means this is simply not meant for you.

Google Cloud Partner Network: The Rebuilt Machine

Those of you who have known me for a long period of time may remember my efforts to get Google to create a partner program that would compete with Microsoft, giving us MSPs more leverage with both. That never really came to pass.

Google, however, has recently overhauled its partner program starting in Q1 2026, replacing the Partner Advantage model with the Google Cloud Partner Network. This is a structural rebuild of a very mature program, not a new launch. It’s also reminiscent of the many name changes we’ve all been through with Microsoft’s Partner Program over the years.

The new model moves from two tiers to three: Select, Premier, and the new Diamond, making them sound a bit more like an airline, with an entry-level Registered status for everyone else. "Diamond" is described by Google as 'intentionally selective' and 'reserved for partners who consistently deliver exceptional customer outcomes.' It's their highest distinction, and Google aims for it to be rare.

The bigger change is in how advancement is measured. Gone are the days of traditional requirements like business plans and customer stories. What is more important is a competency framework built on two dimensions: capacity, measured in certified practitioners and technical credentials, and capability, meaning real-world outcomes, including pre-sales influence and post-sales customer contributions. Google uses AI to track partner progress automatically, removing much of the administrative burden that made the old program feel like paperwork theater.

Given it is an outcomes-based model, this alone shows major improvement. But, as with the many “influencer” programs of the past, you have to ask how they’re measuring influence. As always, those MSPs who have cultivated strong relationships with the Google folks will find advantage here. Unfortunately, that has never proven to be sustainable for very long.

The AI-specific layer within the new program is the Google Cloud Ready - Gemini Enterprise designation, which validates partner-built AI agents for the Gemini Enterprise platform. Customers can discover these agents through a Gemini-powered AI agent finder with natural language search in which they can filter by industry, use case and whether the agent has been validated for deployment. This agent marketplace is potentially a significant revenue surface for partners who build on the Gemini stack. Potentially.

Google's underlying AI strength is data native. Vertex AI, BigQuery ML and Gemini API integrations sit on top of the most powerful data infrastructure in the cloud market. If your clients have significant structured and unstructured data on Google Cloud, you can build AI that draws on that asset without moving it. That's a compelling argument in regulated industries that can't move data to a third-party inference layer.

Google Workspace AI, Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Meet and Sheets, also gives partners a well-understood enterprise product to lead with when clients want to see AI doing something visible right now and not in six month's time.

For MSPs who have partnered with Google previously, very little has really changed.

A framework for Making Your Decision

Three programs, three fundamentally different access models, three different bets on where enterprise AI will be delivered. So how to make your decision?

Choose Anthropic if:

You're building an AI practice from scratch and want a structured, achievable path with vendor investment behind you. The program was designed for MSPs, the certification ladder is published, the $100M commitment is real, and the early-mover window in the public directory is still open. If your clients include any regulated-industry work such as healthcare, financial services, legal, or government, then Claude's safety story is a genuine competitive differentiator.

But act sometime this year. The window won't hold past 2026.

Choose OpenAI if:

You're already OpenAI-native with heavy API consumption, production-grade GPT deployments and a track record with enterprise clients. Continue that work, pursue "Services Partner" status when the opportunity presents itself, and don't wait for a formal program to validate what you're already doing. The formal channel for MSPs doesn't exist yet, but if ChatGPT is what your clients are already asking for by name, you don’t want the uphill climb of convincing them to switch.

Choose Google Cloud if:

You have an existing GCP footprint and clients who live in the Google Workspace and BigQuery ecosystem. The revamped GCPN is meaningfully better than its predecessor, and the Gemini Enterprise agent marketplace opens a new monetization surface for partners who build on the stack. If your practice is already there, don't abandon the investment to chase a new platform. Deepen it.

Just remember, few MSPs have chosen Google over competition. There’s very likely good reason for that.

Your Ideal MSP Strategy

In short, choose Anthropic for new AI practice builders, Google for existing GCP-aligned shops, with OpenAI API capabilities woven into your technical delivery. These aren't mutually exclusive practices, but distinct partner program decisions, and you should only optimize one partner relationship at a time.

This partner program landscape isn't going to get simpler. Quite the opposite. Each of these platforms is moving fast and certification requirements will tighten. The Claude Partner Hub directory that looks uncrowded today will look very different in eighteen months. OpenAI will eventually extend its partner motion beyond four consulting firms, but how soon is anyone’s guess.

MSPs who wait for the market to settle before committing will find the early positions filled and the lead generation advantages captured by the firms that moved first. This is the time to make carefully considered decisions and take decisive action.
