'New' Copilot in Teams App Now Arriving

A "new Copilot experience in Microsoft Teams" is currently rolling out to subscribers, Microsoft announced on Monday.

It's an improved version of the Copilot app in Teams, "formerly known as Microsoft 365 Chat." When installed, it appears as "Copilot," in the Teams interface instead of "M365 Chat." Microsoft seems to also refer to this version of the Copilot app in Teams as "Microsoft Copilot with Graph-grounded chat."

The improvements in this new Copilot app in Teams rollout include:

  • Better prompts, including details specific to you like the people you work with, your meetings, and your files.
  • Ability to see your Copilot chat history.
  • Access to a library of prompts via Copilot Lab.

Users get generative artificial intelligence (AI) support for summarizing key points from a file, creating drafts for meetings and finding information about people in the organization.

The experience of the new Copilot app in Teams is said by Microsoft to be better than M365 Chat, but it's also described as bringing "the same Copilot experience in Teams as you get from microsoft365.com, Bing, and copilot.microsoft.com." It also delivers the same experience as the Copilot app downloaded from the Teams app store.

Microsoft is recommending that users of older M365 Chat app in Teams "unpin" it and use the new Copilot app instead.

Users will know that they have the new Copilot app in Teams as it will be "automatically pinned above your chats."

In other Copilot news this week, Microsoft is adding the ability for organizations to poll sentiments about using Copilot via Viva Pulse and Viva Glint, which is expected to be "available by CY24 Q2."

Also, Microsoft Power Apps users will be getting Copilot AI assistance for filling out forms, which will be "rolling out gradually in the February monthly channel release and early access for 2024 release wave 1," per another Microsoft announcement.

Microsoft also this week reminded IT pros that its FastTrack for Microsoft 365 program is available to help tenancies with "150 or more licenses from one of the eligible plans" get started with Copilot for Microsoft 365.
