The R2 version of Microsoft's Dynamics NAV 2013 enterprise resource planning (ERP) product became generally available this weekend.
Microsoft announced Dynamics NAV 2013 R2's launch on Sunday at the Directions US partner event taking place in Nashville, Tenn., according to this blog post by Microsoft's Dynamics NAV team.
"We are proud to announce that we have shipped Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 and that it is now available for download," the team wrote.
Dynamics NAV 2013 is aimed at the small and medium-sized business (SMB) market. Its last major version was released in fall 2012. This past summer, Microsoft took the major step of allowing its partners to deploy Windows Azure-hosted versions of Dynamics NAV 2013, as well as Dynamics GP 2013, for customers who want a cloud-based ERP solution.
In a September blog post previewing Dynamics NAV 2013 R2, Paul White, senior director of Microsoft Dynamics ERP, reiterated Microsoft's commitment to its hosting partners.
"Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 supports multitenant deployments and comes with a range of tools designed to support large-scale hosting of the Dynamics NAV application -- driving down costs and improving service levels for customers," White wrote at the time.
Other new Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 features include increased integration with Microsoft's Office 365 suite, an improved user interface, enhancements to cash-management tools, and single sign-on capabilities with SharePoint Online.
With this latest release of Dynamics NAV reaching general availability, Microsoft hinted that the next version is already in the works.
According to this post about the R2 release on Microsoft's "The Edge" blog: "We are extremely excited to ship yet another release of Microsoft Dynamics NAV on schedule, and can't wait see how our customers and partners put it to work in their businesses. And yes, the product team is already hard at work on the next release of Microsoft Dynamics NAV!"
