Sonic Mobility Extends NetIQ

Sonic Mobility, which makes software for remotely administering Windows servers from PDAs, extended its solution this week to support remote access to the NetIQ AppManager Suite.
Sonic Mobility's software previously has given administrators the ability to perform most administrative tasks on Windows servers remotely from a wireless Blackberry or Pocket PC device. The stand-alone software, called SonicAdmin, makes it possible for an administrator to diagnose and fix problems from anyplace with wireless service without the need to return to the office. The base solution supports Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003.
The next step in Sonic Mobility's roadmap has been to partner with third-party tools providers to extend the Sonic Mobility functionality to commonly used utilities that administrators would like to be able to access remotely.
Sonic Mobility took the first step along that path last month by extending remote wireless support to OpalisRobot, a scheduling and event monitoring automation tool. NetIQ AppManager was next.
NetIQ AppManager is designed to help administrators guarantee performance and availability of systems via tools for monitoring, diagnostics, recovery and optimization.
AppManager, which allows users to manage Windows, Unix and Linux systems and applications from a single console, also indirectly extends the utility of SonicAdmin to more platforms than just Windows.
As an example of the way the combination might be used, SonicAdmin offers this scenario: An administrator receives an AppManager event notification on a BlackBerry. He uses the same BlackBerry to make a secure connection to AppManager to fix the problem.
