DG Rolls Out Servers with 700-MHz Xeons

Data General Corp. enhanced its high-availability, high-end Windows NT and 2000 server line with the addition of the new 700-MHz Intel Pentium III Xeon processors and the availability of the Data General AV 8950 high-end server.
The Intel Pentium III Xeon processors will be available in Data General's most popular four-way systems and the NUMA-based Unix servers this summer.
The AV 8950 incorporates the latest Intel Profusion chipset, supporting up to eight 700-MHz Pentium III Xeon processors, each with up to 2 MB of L2 cache, and up to 16 GB of ECC-protected memory in a 7U chassis. The AV 8950 has ten 64-bit hot plug PCI slots, including four 66-MHz slots. Internal storage includes DVD, floppy, and 2 hot-swap disk bays, plus support for full fibre EMC Clariion external storage.
