BMC Software Inc. has acquired Internet management provider Evity Inc. The two companies will produce a new portal site for e-commerce Web site management.
The acquisition will merge BMC Software's (www.bmc.com) Patrol application service management with Evity's (www.evity.com) SiteAngel 2000 Web site management service. SiteAngel 2000 is a service that allows e-commerce administrators to monitor the performance of critical path transactions through their Web sites, and to measure that performance against pre-set targets.
The merging of internal and external response time monitoring from SiteAngel 2000 with the operational data Patrol collects for all of the application stack will enable BMC customers to detect performance degradation, time stamp it, and pinpoint and correct the root cause by using a snapshot of the relevant operational parameters taken at that point in time.
"Internet infrastructure services that monitor e-business performance is a massive market opportunity," says Gartner Group (www.gartner.com) analyst Stephen Elliot. "Service providers must recognize that increasing customer visibility into the technical infrastructure will improve customer loyalty and provide a competitive advantage."
The SiteAngel 2000 is an online service that monitors the performance and availability of static and dynamic Web pages to simulate the true end-user experience at an e-business site. SiteAngel 2000 is able to record, play back, and re-record a multi-step Web transaction from within a Web browser without requiring the user to install any software.
The SiteAngel 2000 capabilities are delivered as a subscription service. - Isaac Slepner
