HP Announces Products and Services for Windows 2000

SAN FRANCISCO -- Hewlett-Packard Co. announced products, services and training for the Windows 2000 versions Microsoft Corp. will release today.

David Stubbs, general manager of HP's Microsoft Services Operation said HP’s goal is to help customers reap the benefits of Windows 2000.

HP plans to ship 13 HP desktop and notebook PC models preloaded with Windows 2000, beginning today. The desktop models include the HP Vectra corporate PCs, HP Brio business PCs and HP Kayak PC Workstations. The HP OmniBook 900 and 4150 notebook PCs are also designed to optimize Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 Professional features, including enhanced plug-and-play, power and memory management, and increased security and system reliability.

On the server side, HP NetServer systems have been certified or tested to run Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server. Already owned or recently purchased HP NetServer systems can be upgraded to Windows 2000 independently or through a certified reseller.

HP also announced services for Windows 2000. The Windows 2000 Readiness Assessment program helps customers assess their environments' readiness for Windows 2000 deployments, understand what Windows 2000 can do for them and plan a migration path.

For instance, Active Directory planning and design helps customers re-engineer domain server architectures to support business needs. Server and storage consolidation planning helps customers develop a rationalized server and storage-architecture strategy to manage Windows 2000 environments effectively. – Thomas Sullivan
