Microsoft 365 Copilot in Viva Engage is now generally available, extending Copilot's AI-powered assistant capabilities deeper into the Viva platform.
Organizations that already hold a Microsoft 365 Copilot license will now gain access to tools designed to streamline internal communications and surface insights from conversations.
The new features include dynamic suggestions tailored to where a user is in the platform (for example, when browsing community campaigns, viewing personal feeds or following topics) and enhanced search tools to find past posts or threads that might otherwise be buried.
In the blog announcing the release, Microsoft said Copilot in Viva Engage operates as a context-aware assistant that helps users stay updated on key developments in their organization. It can summarize communications, trending conversations and personalized updates based on a user's activity within Microsoft's productivity suite.
A new feature in this Engage release is enhanced contextual search, which aims help users locate older posts, follow-up threads or updates tied to specific topics or individuals. For larger enterprises managing thousands of daily posts, this could reduce time spent sifting through content and improve cross-team visibility, said Microsoft. The rollout also includes an embedded feedback mechanism, allowing users to rate Copilot's responses with a thumbs up or down -- input that Microsoft says will help refine AI behavior over time.
As for data protection, Microsoft said it will keep all prompts and responses secure, aligning with its overall Copilot security strategy. "All user data and interactions exist in the Microsoft 365 service boundary, protected by encryption, access controls, and full regulatory compliance," said Microsoft. "To ensure data privacy, Copilot doesn't use prompts, responses, and data from Microsoft Graph to train foundational LLMs."
Microsoft has provided detailed instructions for IT on how to set up Copilot for Engage in their environments.
Microsoft had previously previewed Copilot in Viva Engage with features like automated draft post generation and reply suggestions, but the general release now focuses more on contextual insight and navigation, rather than content authoring.
