Dell Hires Former Oracle Executive

A former Oracle Corp. executive has been named Dell Inc.'s chief marketing officer.

Mark Jarvis is Dell's first chief marketing officer and will be responsible for reorganizing and maximizing the computer maker's global marketing operations, company spokesman Dwayne Cox said.

Jarvis, who was not available for interviews, began his new job Monday. He also served as chief marketing officer during a 14-year career at Oracle, a maker of business software.

The hiring completes an executive shuffle that began last year and included the return of Michael Dell as chief executive officer in January, Cox said.

Dell Inc. has lured top corporate executives from Motorola Inc. and Solectron Corp. in recent months. In December, Dell replaced its chief financial officer with Donald Carty, the former chief executive of AMR Corp., parent of American Airlines.
