Dell OEMs MOM Express Edition

Dell this week began offering Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Workgroup Edition on its PowerEdge servers.

The announcement came during the Microsoft Management Summit in Las Vegas, a show where Microsoft was highlighting changes coming to MOM, Systems Management Server and other elements of its System Center product family.

Dell positions the bundle for small and medium businesses, the same audience for which Microsoft created the Workgroup Edition of its five-year-old operations and applications management suite.

Dell integrated the MOM 2005 Workgroup Edition with a Dell Management Pack to provide a single console for monitoring the operating system, Microsoft applications and Dell servers.

The computermaker sells the MOM 2005 Workgroup Edition for $499, which the company notes works out to $50 per server for customers managing 10 servers with the MOM software.
