Intel Drops Celeron Prices

Intel Corp. on Sunday made modest cuts to the prices of its Celeron line of economy desktop processors to accommodate the price of a 0.13-micron version introduced this month.
Intel launched a 0.13-micron process technology processor at 1.2 GHz with 256 KB of on-chip, level-two cache on Oct. 2. The list price per chip in 1,000-unit quantities was $103.
On Sunday, Intel dropped the prices of its three fastest 0.18-micron Celerons.
The price for the 1.1 GHz Celeron fell 14 percent from $103 to $89. The 1.0 GHz version dropped 17 percent from $89 to $74. The 950 MHz Celeron price went down 7 percent from $74 to $69. All three processors carry 128 KB of L2 cache.
Intel held the prices of its other four 0.18-micron Celerons with 128 KB of L2 cache -- the 900 MHz, 850 MHz, 800 MHz and 766 MHz -- at $64.
