Intel Announces New Media Switch Family

Intel Corp. unveiled the Intel Media Switch Family products, which provide true voice, video, and data integration over corporate networks.

The Intel Media Switch Family enables advanced applications, such as voice over IP (VoIP), distance learning, streaming video, teleconferencing, and corporate network videoconferencing with their multi-service capabilities including Quality of Service (QoS), Class of Service (CoS), multicasting, routing, bandwidth management, and provisioning.

The Intel Media Switch Family includes various silicon hardware and software building blocks. The software includes driver application protocol interfaces and Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocol stacks, required to build Layer 2/3/4 switch routers. The family als includes royalty-free licensing of source code for APIs that include code for all hardware dependent parts of the design, and protocols, when used to develop products with Intel Media Switch devices.

The Media Switch Family consists of the Media Switch IXE5418 Gigabit device, the Media Switch IXE2412 10/100 device, the Media Switch IXE5150 Gigabit Crossbar device, the Media Switch LXT998 8-port Integrated Switch device, and the LXT9785 8-port 10/100 Transceiver.
