American Power Conversion Unveils Power Protection Solution

American Power Conversion Corp. (APC) announced a scalable and redundant rackmout power protection solution specifically designed to protect both data and rack-based hardware.

The Symmetra RM, available in sizes ranging from 2kVA to 6kVA, will protect from 5 to 20 servers from power outages and can be fully managed and controlled through an integrated Web/SNMP management card. The 8U Symmetra RM is the latest addition to APC's Symmetra Power Array family.

The Symmetra RM's architecture is similar to the design of RAID technology. This design consists of a rackmount frame with slots that house both power and battery modules that share the load, as well as an intelligent module and a redundant intelligent module for backup. When the frame is fully populated with power and battery modules, the system will support a total load of 6kVA with N+1 redundancy.
