Microsoft Debuts BizTalk Server 2000

Microsoft Corp. today announced public availability of the BizTalk Server 2000 technology preview. The preview is built on Microsoft's BizTalk initiative announced last year and begins Microsoft's next step toward an XML Internet application integration solution.

Internet application integration involves integration methodology for both traditional enterprise application integration (EAI) scenarios inside the organization and business-to-business e-commerce scenarios between trading partners over the Internet. BizTalk Server 2000 will unite in a single product secure delivery, routing, and transformation of business documents, as well as development tools and application adapters to XML-enable existing applications.

BizTalk Server 2000 will offer a broad set of infrastructure capabilities and tools to simplify and speed Internet application integration. Reliable document interchange will support delivery and content-driven rules-based routing of multiple document types. Multiple network transport support will permit delivery across a range of transport protocols, including HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, and Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) Message Queue Server (MSMQ) and Exchange. Security will be provided by encryption, digital signatures, and public key infrastructure (PKI). Additionally, the server will provide graphical modeling and development tools, application adapters, and management and administration tools.

Dell Computer Corp. (www.dell.com) plans to implement BizTalk Server 2000 later this month. More information can be found on the BizTalk Initiative Web site (www.biztalk.org). - Isaac Slepner
