Sybase Announces EIPs

Sybase Inc. (www.sybase.com) unleashed a flood of announcements on Monday, the first day of the Sybase TechWave '99 User Conference in Orlando. Most of the releases focused on the company's drive to deliver what it calls Enterprise Information Portals (EIP).

One such announcement was the release of Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.0 (ASE) as a "portal-ready" database, complete with extended capabilities for native Java support, tight XML integration for Internet content management, high availability and support for Web transaction management.

ASE now offers support for a new high availability companion server architecture with a two-node cluster configuration that supports Active/Active or Active/Passive failover servers. To ensure continuous availability of client applications, connections are automatically failed over to the companion server without impact to end-users. ASE 12.0 is scheduled to ship early in the fourth quarter.

Another solution out of the Enterprise Solutions Division at Sybase -- also tagged as portal-ready -- was the Enterprise Event Broker, which can automate the capture, transformation and delivery of business events and information across database applications to integrate with other applications in the enterprise without requiring changes to the existing code.

The Enterprise Event Broker, which is available immediately, is integrated with messaging software from Tibco Software Inc.'s TIB/ActiveEnterprise and IBM Corp.'s MQSeries for event transport. -- Brian Ploskina
