HP Ships Voice/Data Server

Hewlett-Packard Co. today announced the HP Business Communications Server (HP BCS), a product resulting from the partnership that Nortel Networks Inc. (www.nortel.com), Microsoft Corp., Intel Corp. and HP announced in March.

The HP Business Communications Server system provides an integrated voice and data communications platform. This platform combines the Nortel Networks Voice Product Portfolio with a server that addresses business applications and Internet needs. The voice-over-IP option can be used in remote or satellite offices of larger organizations.

The HP BCS system has telephone applications typically associated with higher-level PBX systems -- unified messaging, IP telephony, call-center control, auto-attendant and mobility applications. To help with reliability, basic telephony functions operate when the server is rebooting.

The product is scheduled to be available in the United States and Canada on July 8. Initially, it will be distributed through Ingram Micro (www.ingrammicro.com) and sold in the United States and Canada through HP-certified resellers. – Thomas Sullivan
