A wholly owned Alaska Native Corporation. Koniag is owned by more than 3,800 Alaska Native Shareholders. We were formed as part of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971. Written into law by Richard Nixon, ANCSA settled the aboriginal land claims of the Alaska Native people by providing money, land and other natural resources to regional and village corporations across the state. Unlike other for-profit companies, Alaska Native Corporations have a mission and vision that is rooted in Alaska Native values.
