Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Set for Release Next Month

The R2 version of Dynamics NAV 2013 will become generally available sometime in October, Microsoft announced this weekend during the Directions EMEA conference in Vienna, Austria.

Dynamics NAV 2013 is Microsoft's enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for small and medium-sized businesses. The latest version became generally available in the fall of 2012. This past summer, Microsoft took the long-awaited step of enabling its partners to deploy Dynamics NAV 2013 on the Windows Azure cloud platform for customers that want a hosted solution.

The forthcoming Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 will retain and build on that Windows Azure-hosting capability, according to a blog post on Sunday by Paul White, senior director of Microsoft Dynamics ERP.

"Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 supports multitenant deployments and comes with a range of tools designed to support large-scale hosting of the Dynamics NAV application -- driving down costs and improving service levels for customers," White wrote.

Other improvements coming to Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 include greater integration with Microsoft's cloud-based Office 365 suite.

"Microsoft Dynamics NAV can now be deployed as an application to on-premises and cloud-based SharePoint sites, with single sign on and a consistent look and feel across the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client and Office 365," White said.

Additionally, the R2 edition will have improvements to its user interface and cash-management features.
