McAfee Adds Secure Virtualization Service

McAfee has created a new service offering, McAfee Foundstone Professional Services, that aims to secure virtualized environments. The service was announced at the VMworld Europe Conference in Cannes, France, last week.

McAfee Foundstone Professional Services works on top of the security built into VMware's software.

According to a press release, the service works much like a security audit, "reviewing people, processes and technology" involved in the creation of virtual environments and making sure that security best practices are already aligned with corporate security policies already in place. The service will work with McAfee's ePolicy Orchestrator, where much of the security policy auditing, reporting and management can be centralized.

Through its Foundstone Professional Services, McAfee also offers what it calls the Virtual Infrastructure Security Assessment. That service is delivered as a consulting engagement, whereby Foundstone security experts make a comprehensive audit of physical and virtual environments.

In a nutshell, the consultants review system architecture and design, how virtual environments are configured against them, and then determine where security vulnerabilities might exist within and between the physical and virtual environments. The consultants then deliver the findings and a set of security recommendations via presentations and workshops.

According to a press release, the service can take between one and four days based on the organization's size.
