Microsoft: ‘Mendocino’ on Track – Value Packs Planned

Microsoft and partner SAP on Tuesday said they are still on schedule to ship their “Project Mendocino” integration product in June.

Additionally, the two companies revealed Mendocino’s official name – Duet.

The two firms announced the project a year ago, with the aim of enabling knowledge workers to easily interact with SAP business processes and data using Microsoft Office applications.

Nearly 100 joint customers and industry partners have been working with early versions of the product since late December, the companies said in a statement. That’s about twice the number originally announced. (See “MS and SAP To Preview ‘Mendocino’,” Dec. 21, 2005.)

Duet provides support, often through the Outlook messaging client, for various business scenarios. The first four supported are budget monitoring, time management, leave management and organization management.

In the second half of the year, the companies plan to provide two “value packs” for Duet that will add five more scenarios -- recruitment management, travel management, analytics, purchasing management and sales activity management, the statement continued.

The value packs are designed for compatibility with the next release of mySAP ERP and the 2007 release of the Microsoft Office system and will expand language support to include English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese, the companies said.
