Microsoft Offers ISVs SQL Front Runner Status

With the launch of SQL Server 2005 today in San Francisco, Microsoft has unveiled a new program that will allow registered independent software vendors (ISVs) to earn a "Front Runner" designation as well as a chance to receive up to $5,000 to promote their custom SQL applications.

To become a SQL Server 2005 Front Runner, companies must be a registered member of the partner program, complete an application form, and build and test their application by March 31, 2006.

By registering, participants will receive 10 hours of free support from Microsoft's Beta One Services as well as a Veritest voucher worth $800 to cover the cost of the SQL Server Platform Test.

Once completed, companies are allowed to use the Front Runner logo for the application. Other benefits include customizable promotion materials and the option to appear in a Microsoft advertisement.

Up to 200 SQL Front Runner ISVs will also be chosen to receive $5,000 to market their application. To qualify, companies must also sign an ISV Royalty Licensing Agreement and be new participants in that program.
