StorageX Update Unifies Net File Protocols
NuView is shipping the latest version of its distributed file-data management package.
StorageX 5.5 adds the ability for administrators to build “a unified global namespace across CIFS and NFS protocols and perform policy-based heterogeneous data management across Linux, Solaris, Microsoft Windows, NetApp and others,” the Houston, Texas company says in a statement.
NuView's flagship product, StorageX, was designed to enable aggregation and centralized management of distributed file storage. StorageX 5.5 is designed to dynamically and non-disruptively provision storage volumes, thus facilitating a utility-based storage model, according to the company.
The idea is to make it easy for storage administrators to add, consolidate, migrate and fail over heterogeneous servers and NAS appliances. “[Additionally], administrators using StorageX 5.5 can now centrally unify CIFS and NFS storage resources and allocate them to applications and users transparently and on demand,” according to NuView’s statement.
Other new features include the ability to build global namespaces based on the underlying security, or group permissions, assigned to the data. Changes in security are automatically reflected in the StorageX Global Namespace, ensuring consistency between data access and underlying security attributes of the data. Version 5.5 also provides an improved reports interface, the company says.
