Microsoft Releases New Tools for Workflow

Microsoft Corp. released new tools for building workflow applications and collaborative Office solutions that integrate and take advantage of features in Microsoft Exchange 2000 and SQL Server 7.0.

Office 2000 Developer version 1.5 allows automation of expense reporting, document routing, and issue tracking. Developers can use the tools to visually design workflow processes for SQL and/or Exchange data. The tools enable developers to automate a number of business processes, including document routing and associated e-mail notification, for both Exchange 2000 and SQL Server data.

Developers will be able to build Exchange-based collaborative workflow solutions that automate the routing and approval of Office documents, business forms, and other Exchange data. Office 2000 Developer version 1.5, in conjunction with native workflow services in Exchange 2000, speeds the development of workflow solutions by providing the necessary tools and components as part of the core development product and platform.
