Microsoft, Unisys, Giganet Set New SAP Benchmark for W2K

Microsoft Corp. and Unisys Corp., along with Giganet Inc., achieved a new SAP R/3 benchmark on Giganet's cLAN server farm network products running Windows 2000.

Running on Unisys [email protected] Optimized Servers for SAP R/3, interconnected with a Giganet (www.giganet.com) cLAN server farm network, the benchmark was set in a SAP Sales & Distribution (SD) environment using the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database.

The benchmark ran in a 3-tiered environment, with 40 eight-way Unisys (www.unisys.com) ES5085 and 4 four-way Unisys ES5045 Optimized Servers for SAP R/3, networked with Giganet cLAN, running Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database and Windows 2000. The configuration supported 6,600 users, with an average response time of less than 1.95 seconds.

An average throughput of 1,988,000 dialog steps per hour was achieved, supporting 6,600 SAP R/3 SD benchmark users, which is equivalent to 33,130 fully processed business order line items per hour. The average dialog response time was 1.95 seconds.

The SAP (www.sap.com) R/3 SD benchmark is designed to perform typical business transactions using SAP's R/3 Sales and Distribution application module. It is one of the R/3 Standard Application Benchmark tests that measure the performance of various vendors' hardware. - Isaac Slepner
