Data General Sets First W2K Benchmark for Baan ERP Apps

With the imminent release of Windows 2000, third-party vendors are scrambling to fine-tune their products to the new operating system. Today, Data General Corp. completed the first benchmark for Baan enterprise software applications running on Windows 2000 and SQL Server 7.0 database.

The new benchmark was achieved using Data General's Intel-based (www.intel.com) Aviion AV 8900 8-way enterprise server and an EMC (www.emc.com) Clariion FC 5700 Fibre Channel storage system with Windows 2000 Advanced Server operating system. The AV 8900 handled a load of 1,260 Baan (www.baan.com) Reference Users (BRUs), the standard measurement of capacity utilization. This marks the first 2-tier benchmark to exceed a load of 1000 BRUs.

The environment for the Data General (www.dg.com) benchmark was comprised of an AV 8900 server with eight Pentium III Xeon 500 MHz processors with 2Mb Level 2 cache sizes; Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server Release Candidate (RC) 2 operating system; Baan Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) 5.0 applications; Microsoft SQL Server 7.0; Mercury Interactive's LoadRunner 5.2 load controller; and full-fibre EMC Clariion FC5700 with two storage processors each with 512 MB memory and 20-18 GB RPM disks. -- Isaac Slepner
