Compaq Enables Remote Administration With Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition

Compaq Computer Corp. today introduced new products that give IT managers more control and ease of use for remote server management and software update management across the entire Compaq line of server and PC products. Compaq is demonstrating the new Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition in the Microsoft Windows 2000 booth at Comdex.

The new Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition provides IT managers access to any Compaq ProLiant server via a Web browser with an operating system, independent graphical remote console, and diagnosis-before-dispatch capabilities. Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition reduces the need for dedicated IT staff, proactively manages ProLiant servers in any power state, and provides corporate IT managers or service providers with control of both remote servers and large data centers anytime from anywhere, effectively creating a virtual presence for the administrator. The Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition will be available December 15.

Compaq also introduced ActiveUpdate, a profile-driven, Web-based e-service that distributes software updates and creates an intuitive directory of updates at customers' sites. Updates are delivered directly, based on customer profiles, to a local repository for IT managers to distribute to ProLiant servers, Deskpro desktops, workstations and Armada portables. ActiveUpdate will be available in early December.

Additionally, Compaq announced release 1.1 of Compaq Insight Manager XE and updated integration modules for HP OpenView on Windows NT, HP OpenView on HP-UX and Tivoli NetView on IBM-AIX. New services capabilities to help customers and service providers deploy and benefit from Compaq Insight Manager and other Compaq management tools were also announced.
