Winternals Software LP has announced two new disk utilities for Windows that provide ease of use in cross-platform file system compatibility. NTFSDOS provides full read/write access to NTFS drives from within MS-DOS. Users can run MS-DOS programs and commands on NTFS drives just as they do on FAT drives. NTFSDOS Professional also functions as a recovery tool for unbootable NT installations by allowing users to delete problematic drivers, edit configuration files such as BOOT.INI, or replace corrupted or missing system files.
NTFS for Windows 98 introduces full read/write access to NTFS drives from within Windows 95/98. It allows users of dual-boot systems to easily share data between Windows 95/98, NT, and 2000. NTFS for Windows 98 also eases migration from Windows 95/98 to Windows 2000.
NTFSDOS Professional and NTFS for Windows 98 use the NTFS and NTOSKRNL system files from a Windows NT/2000 configuration and wrap the Windows NT/2000 NTFS driver in a run-time environment in order to provide cross-platform file system support, thus guaranteeing compatibility with NTFS.
