Oracle, HP Team to Provide E-Services

Hewlett Packard Co. and Oracle Corp. are aligning to jointly create technology for developing and deploying "e-services." This will include HP's e-speak, a dynamic brokering language, built on Oracle's 8i database platform, as well as a variety of other Oracle Internet products.

The services will be made available to application developers and HP's e-speak community through the Oracle Technology Network and HP's developer portal. The companies will also establish labs at HP in Cupertino, Calif. and at Oracle in Redwood Shores, Calif. The partners also plan to form "expert centers" worldwide to assist customers.

The services will focus on the areas of business-to-business services such as application hosting, Web-based procurement and enterprise resource planning, and consumer services, such as integrated travel, healthcare and e-commerce businesses.

The companies consider "e-services" any asset that companies or individuals make available via the Internet to drive new revenue streams or create new efficiencies. They explain that e-services work behind the scenes to combine and recombine to solve problems and complete transactions. The services will be available on major Unix platforms and Windows NT/2000, as well as the Oracle 8i Appliance. -- Brian Ploskina
