ERP Vendors Jockeying for Internet, BizTalk Position

Microsoft Corp. and SAP AG (www.sap.com) announced that they intend to interconnect Microsoft's MSN Web portal to the mySAP.com portal through the Microsoft BizTalk framework and SAP Business Framework as part of move to provide their separate technologies to their respective customers.

The specification that is created will be used to integrate the SAP Business-to-Business Procurement (SAP B2B) solution and Microsoft Commerce Server.

Microsoft's BizTalk framework is based on the extensible markup language (XML) standard that enables communication integration regardless of underlying technologies.

The SAP Business Framework provides SAP customers with simplified systems upgrade and maintenance; interoperability with partners, R/3, legacy systems, customer-specific and third party solutions; and a Web-enabled platform.

Meanwhile, PeopleSoft Inc. (www.peoplesoft.com) is continuing to strengthen its business network (PSBN), announcing the PeopleSoft e7.5, an enterprise-class e-business backbone that will provide the foundation of the PSBN. Available this quarter, it provides Internet-functionality to PeopleSoft applications, adding HTML access and a Web-deployable Microsoft Windows client for power users.

PSBN represents PeopleSoft's ongoing strategy to provide a comprehensive network for e-business including an Internet-enabled backbone, Enterprise Performance Management and eBusiness Communities, all delivered through a Web portal. Key elements of the PSBN, including the portal and community applications, will be based on the Microsoft BizTalk framework -- Brian Ploskina
