Intel Introduces Next Generation I/O for Computing Servers

Intel Corp. today introduced the Next Generation Input/Output (NGIO) specification, a technology for moving information within high-performance next-generation computer servers. The NGIO specification was announced at an open industry forum held in San Diego focusing on next generation input/output directions.
The goal is to have these technologies within server systems to keep pace with the growing demands of enterprise-class software solutions and the continuous increases in processor performance. The NGIO specification is the culmination of an approximately two-years of cooperative work involving more than 20 leaders in the computing industry.
The NGIO architecture is designed from the ground up to enable new levels of scalability and reliability in order to meet the needs of the server platform and the mission-critical enterprise applications that customers are running on servers.
As a part of the open industry forum activities, major portions of the NGIO specification, which have been reviewed by leading server OEMs, independent hardware vendors, and networking companies will be made available to the 200+ attendees participating in the forum.
Intel's contributions to the final specification will be licensed royalty free to those who sign the adopters agreement.
