Microsoft Invests in TechNet Expansion

Microsoft Corp. announced that it will invest $40 million in expanding its TechNet service, whose monthly CD-ROM subscription service currently serves more than 240,000 subscribers. The expansion will include more than 1,000 free technical quarterly briefings worldwide and enhancement of the TechNet Web site.

According to the company, the TechNet initiative is designed to provide IT professionals with how-to information and resources needed for installing, deploying and supporting current and planned Microsoft technology investments, as well as to enable users to better communicate with Microsoft and other IT professionals.

The quarterly TechNet briefings are presented by Microsoft technical professionals on topics such as administering IT infrastructure, development concerns, and deploying Internet solutions. The TechNet Web site provides online technical resources, reference pages and threaded discussions.

This $40 million investment is part of the $200 million dollar investment in systems and initiatives that Microsoft president Steve Ballmer announced on July 23 at Financial Analyst Day.—Roseann McGrath Brooks, Managing Editor
