Microsoft Releases Mobile App for Viva Connections

Microsoft has announced the general availability of the Viva Connections mobile app for Microsoft Teams.

The release of the mobile app this week comes about seven months after the release of the Viva Connections desktop app.

"The Viva Connections mobile app is optimized to provide a fast, native, and branded experience focused on Dashboard, Feed, and Resources," according to Microsoft's documentation. "It is a Teams application that is branded with your company name and logo."

One of Viva Connections' features is a customizable dashboard that organizations can augment with third-party applications supplied by Microsoft partners. The apps are available via Microsoft's SharePoint store or AppSource.

"Viva Connections provides an extensible platform directly through the dashboard experience, with many ISVs and partners having already created pre-built integrations for IT, HR, and employee experience solutions that customers can plug directly into their Viva Connections experience," wrote Mike Holste, senior product marketing manager for Microsoft Viva, in the announcement.

Viva Connections apps are now available from the following partners, he said:

  • Qualtrics
  • UKG
  • ServiceNow
  • Moveworks
  • Limeade
  • Tribute
  • LifeWorks
  • Talentsoft
  • StandOut

Applications are in the works from the following partners:

  • Workday
  • EdCast
  • Zebra-Reflexis
  • BlueYonder
  • Espressive

Viva Connections is one of the components of Microsoft's broader Viva product, which it has been touting since its debut in February as an "experience" platform for employees and HR personnel, specifically for the remote-work era. The function of Viva Connections is to act as an organization's newsfeed and content-sharing interface. The other modules are:

  • Viva Insights: Employee time management
  • Viva Learning: Employee-accessible learning libraries
  • Viva Topics: For surfacing information within organizations

A fifth Viva component based on technology from Ally.io, a startup in the objectives and key results (OKR) space that Microsoft acquired in October, is in the works.

At Microsoft Ignite earlier this month, Microsoft announced that the full Viva suite is now available for purchase. However, the individual Viva apps themselves are in varying degrees of finalization. Besides the Viva Connections desktop and mobile apps, only Viva Topics is currently generally available.
