In late April, Microsoft released financial results for the financial quarter that ended March 31. Company CFO Chris Lidell called the quarter perhaps "the most difficult environment Microsoft has faced in its entire 30-year history."

Some key comparisons to the same quarter a year ago:

Revenue down 6%
Net income down 32%
Client revenue down 16%
Server and Tools revenue up 7%
Transactional and OEM revenues down 15%
Online advertising revenues down 13%

Microsoft's next financial quarter, and its fiscal year, ends June 30. The company plans to release those results on July 23.
