Ready to commit to Active Directory but already using
a complex domain structure and not quite sure where to
start? NetIQ's Domain Migration Administrator will help
you cut through the clutter and make sure all of your
important settings end up in the new domain, whether that's
pure Active Directory, Mixed Mode, or NT4.
Domain Migration Administrator runs in the familiar Microsoft
Management Console interface and makes extensive use of
HTML taskpads and standalone wizards to guide you through
the complex process of moving users, groups, and other
objects between domain structures. It organizes operations
through a project metaphor, letting you see at any point
where you are in a lengthy migration and reminding you
of steps yet to be performed, or ones that need to be
retried.
One of the key features of Domain Migration Administrator
is migration of ACLs, the low-level security descriptors
relied on by Windows NT and Windows 2000 to arbitrate
access to objects. Domain Migration Administrator can
migrate these security settings on files, shares, printers,
user profiles, mailboxes, registry keys, and more. This
thorough attention to detail helps make sure that you
don't inadvertently introduce security holes in moving
to a new domain architecture.
Other features include a Netware Migrator to pick up
users, groups, and file security from a NetWare network,
the ability to migrate users, groups, and computers between
two Windows 2000 domains in the same forest, "Active Agent"
technology that distributes the migration load in parallel
between many computers, and rollback support that allows
you to reverse a decision that had unexpected consequences.

Domain Migration Administrator
makes good use of GUI standards such as Microsoft
Management Console and Wizards. |
No product is going to make a Windows domain migration
a completely transparent operation, but Domain Migration
Administrator does an excellent job of simplifying the
tasks involved and completing them with minimal downtime.
