Acquisitions, Expansions Among NSIs

Tallan buys twentysix New York, Sapient expands.

Two Microsoft National Systems Integrators (NSIs) announced moves in September that point to consolidation and globalization forces currently at work in the channel.

Hartford, Conn.-based systems integrator Tallan Inc. acquired twentysix New York, expanding the scope of Microsoft-focused services it provides to enterprise customers. With a presence in Boston, Tampa, Fla., Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., the acquisition establishes Tallan in the lucrative New York market.

The deal extends the Tallan portfolio of services to include key Microsoft .NET Framework technologies, such as SQL Server development and Silverlight for business-critical applications, according to officials at the newly combined company.

Tallan brings more traditional Web site development and BizTalk integration capabilities, among other things, according to Tallan executives. The two companies have some overlap, including SharePoint integration and business intelligence projects.

"We've been looking to expand our business in a number of areas, and we wanted to gain more critical mass," says Craig Branning, Tallan CEO.

Meanwhile, Sapient, a 20-year-old, Boston-based company with 7,822 employees and nearly $640 million in 2009 revenues, is expanding its presence in Bangalore, India.

Sapient will nearly double the size of its Bangalore facility to about 100,000 square feet.

"The company plans to nearly double its workforce in Bangalore by the end of 2010,as well as continue expansion in its two other Indian markets: Gurgaon and Noida," Sapient said in a statement.
