Network management and messaging vendor NTP Software is testing an application development tool designed to reduce the work developers do to tailor applications for Windows NT and Windows 2000 environments. Enterprise Application Services Extension (EASE) is a software foundation that provides a management infrastructure and development platform for distributed enterprise applications. "This will cut two man years off your development process," NTP president Bruce Backa said at a news conference announcing the product at the Windows 2000 Conference and Expo.
Based on COM/DCOM, EASE is designed to integrate with the Active Directory. A hierarchical structure built into the product allows organizations to develop applications for Windows NT 4.0 that can be migrated to the Active Directory when an organization moves to Windows 2000, Backa said.
NTP Software will sell EASE to enterprise development teams and to ISVs for product development.
NTP application support for EASE will be available in the second quarter. Availability of the EASE development environment will come in the second half of 2000.
