Dell Launches 2 New Front-Side Bus Servers

Dell Computer Corp. this week launched a pair of 2-way servers employing the new 133-MHz front side bus.
The Dell PowerEdge 4400 is targeted at departmental deployments such as messaging, database, Internet/intranet, e-commerce, or file-and-print servers. The Dell PowerEdge 2450 with a 2U form factor is designed for rack deployments.
The floor-standing or rack-mountable PowerEdge 4400 features a 64-bit quad-peer PCI architecture and hot-pluggable, redundant fans and component interconnect support.
The server sports up to 252 GB of internal storage, 288 GB if an optional 36 GB hot-pluggable drive is installed in the removable media bay. Ultra3 RAID is embedded on the motherboard of the server as well.
Dell positions the PowerEdge 2450 for sales to Internet data centers and other deployments where density matters. In addition to the dual processors, the server crams in up to 2 GB of memory and as much as 91 GB of internal storage capacity across five hard drives. The system embeds both a network interface card and Ultra3 RAID controllers on the system board.
Pricing for the 4400 starts at $4,699. The 2450 starts at $2,999.
