Rational Software Corp. today announced a major update to its product line. Rational Suite 1.5 is a new e-development tool which combines integration and enhanced functionality that enable software teams to design, build, test and manage change to Internet software. The new integration is facilitated by Unified Change Management (UCM), a new workflow process that combines products to automate the management of activities and software artifacts across the e-development lifecycle.
UCM is realized through activity-level integration between Rational Suite 1.5 and another new Rational product, Rational ClearCase. UCM is a change management model that automates collaboration across cross-functional teams to accelerate e-development. This ensures that all members of an e-development team efficiently perform the work necessary to deliver changes to related sets of artifacts.
Rational Suite 1.5 includes the Rational Unified Process (RUP), which contains Internet-specific practices to improve speed and quality when building software for the Internet. The RUP contains Internet application development guides, Java development guidelines, a UML modeling guide for Web application architectures and design concepts for Internet application development.
Other features of Rational Suite 1.5 include enhanced functional and performance testing for Internet applications; Rational Suite DevelopmentStudio, which helps developers meet the challenges of Internet development; and new requirements management functionality to ensure that Internet software meets dynamic user requirements.
Rational Suite 1.5 will be available within 45 days.
